Meet Phylicia Henderson, LAC, NCC
Owner, Founder, & Licensed Therapist
Creating a space where you can finally be seen.
I am Phylicia Henderson, a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC). As a Black woman and the founder of Pierced Valley Therapy, I am deeply passionate about providing a safe, culturally responsive sanctuary for those who have often been overlooked by the traditional mental health system.
I founded this practice because I saw a vital need for quality care that truly understands the unique needs and cultures of the underserved, BIPOC, and marginalized communities. Having witnessed firsthand how systemic limits can leave people feeling forgotten, I’ve dedicated my work to giving back to the communities that helped shape the person I am today.
I provide a warm, non-judgmental environment where you can show up exactly as you are. My approach is rooted in Public Health and Cultural Advocacy, meaning I look at your wellness as part of a larger story. While I am building my practice out of Yuma, Pierced Valley Therapy is currently a virtual-only practice serving individuals across the entire state of Arizona. Whether you are navigating the weight of anxiety and depression or seeking a trauma-informed space to heal, I am here to walk alongside you. My goal is to bridge the gap in care and ensure that no matter where you are in Arizona, you have access to a therapist who sees you, hears you, and understands your journey.
You deserve a space that was built with you in mind. Let’s begin.
The name Pierced Valley Therapy is a tribute to my late father, Percy, whose name means "pierce the valley." In nature, a valley is a place of shadow, trapped between high peaks of adversity. "Piercing the valley" describes the precise moment the sun breaks over the mountain's edge, sending rays of light into the deepest, darkest corners of the lowlands. This imagery mirrors the therapeutic journey: we acknowledge the tough terrain, but we work together toward the breakthrough.

The Benefits of Therapy
Participation in therapy can lead to reduced stress, improved relationships, increased self-awareness, and more effective management of trauma-related symptoms. Our goal is to move you from a state of "surviving" to one of "thriving."
